A vibrant, historic neighborhood
Nestled between Westport Road and Ward Parkway
Restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and a park all within walking distance
West Plaza is a vibrant, historic neighborhood nestled between Westport Road and Ward Parkway. A neighborhood rich in history, the Battle of Westport was fought in and around West Plaza. After the war, Kansas City really began to thrive. With a bridge built across the Missouri River the city became a major hub for transportation and the meatpacking industry. Many blue collar workers were employed at meatpacking plants in the West Bottoms and took the street car to and from their homes in West Plaza.
Unlike other districts in the city, West Plaza wasn’t a planned development. As farmland was sold off new homes were built in a myriad of shapes and sizes. While many of the older homes in the area have been restored, the mix of homes in the neighborhood is something that has always added to the beauty and character of the neighborhood.
