Scott Gustafson
Carpenter
Scott Gustafson earned a master’s degree in architecture but said he was “more interested in what was going on around a building than in actually designing it.” Scott was set to pursue his doctorate, but instead went on to work for a city council member to get staff, construction companies, and members of the community on the same page for development projects.
Next, he joined San Antonio’s downtown advocacy committee, relishing the chance to contribute to new projects that revitalized several areas of the city. A friend in commercial real estate told Scott about an exciting condo conversion she was involved in, and he soon signed on as a project manager, which exposed him to carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and other trades. This experience prepared Scott for remodeling projects he oversaw after moving back to Kansas City.
His friend Andrew Williamson came to Kala as a carpenter and brought Scott to a BS and Beer event. After just a few minutes, Scott saw that the company shared his passion for durable construction and seized the opportunity to join the carpentry team. In his off time, he enjoys cycling, gardening, listening to music, and blending the best peanut butter you can imagine.

What does generous mean to Scott?
“Everybody can give something. Acts of kindness are the way I show that I care about people. Yesterday, I spent four hours cleaning up a jobsite to make everyone else’s job easier.”
